Tournamenthost and event organizer FACEIT has revealed a $50,000 Apex LegendsPro Series, becoming the latest entity to endorse the EA-releasedshooter game as an esports.

Electronic Arts’ ApexLegends will get yet another competitive even with eventorganizer FACEIT announcing a $50,000 prize pool eventfeaturing 14 teams.

The competitive format willbe split into eight separate events held online with the first eventstarting on May 31. The event will feature a number ofwell-recognized esports entities, including:

More organizations, includingthe 76ers-owned Dignitas, Fnatic, Misfits, andG2 Esports are also coming into the competitive fray onFriday. Previously, FACEIT teamed up with T1 to host a quicktournament for Apex Legends, which attracted significant interest.The Mach-tournament featured a number of high-profile streamers. ATwitch tournament with a prize pool $100,000 was also heldearlier this year.
Tyler “Ninja”Blevins, a Fortnite star, was paid $1 million to play Apex Legendsand drive interest in the game, areport revealed. Apex Legends continued to break records andeffectively surpassed Fortnite in terms of total simultaneousplayers. Some called the game “the new gaming gold rush,”withplenty of room left for the battle royale genre to develop.
Apex Legends securedexcellent player base just a month within its release date, puling50 million players in a record time, and displacing Fortnite asthe hottest battle royale game. EA did, as previously stated,initiate a very aggressive marketing campaign that helped it buildthe numbers quickly and beyond recognition.
The marketing push definitelyhelped Apex Legends stay on top of the gaming charts, but it is thebattle royale title’s own merits that have helped it remain relevantmonths after its release date.
However, not eve top646 rything iswell in paradise. Micro transactions for the game generated areported $92 million in February, but the numbers performedcomparatively poorly in March, when the game generated only $24million from the sales of various goodies.
Now that he initialexcitement has died down, a fair question would be – is Apex Legendsreally better than Fortnite?
